The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto
the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of
the prison to them that are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of
our God; to comfort all that mourn; to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes,
the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of
righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. (Isaiah 61:1-3)
With these words, the Scriptures foretold of the Person, Work, and Spirit of Messiah. The mystery of the
incarnation is manifested in this age through the Church, the Body of Jesus Christ, his living, physical
presence in the world. The Church alone is anointed to continue his work. Indwelt and enlivened by the same
Spirit that was given unto him without measure, this Church is entrusted with the everlasting Gospel and the
ministry of reconciliation through its faithful announcement and practice. Hence, the ministry of the Lord Jesus
and of his Church are all of one.
The ministries of Fair Grove Baptist are in keeping with that trust given to us. As Jesus went about doing
good, so it is our privilege, pleasure, and appointment to do as he did. Our sovereign Lord has built this
Church. According to the gifts of each divinely placed member, so our ministry in this world exists and
flourishes. As this Body matures and prospers in the Lord, so also our ministry. As our knowledge of our Lord
deepens, so also our ministry. As our love for God and for men is enlarged, so also our service unto both.
